If you are
not experienced in betting shop work, vacancies may well exist
for Full Time, Part Time and weekend only cashiers.
Bar staff have been applying to us for employment because our
shops are never open after 10:00 pm and some bar staff, with the
relaxation in liquor licensing laws, have been asked to work
extraordinary hours.
Please note:- ALL our staff are expected to be available to
work some Saturdays, although we do try and accommodate where
possible. |
Cashier
Vacancies often exist for Full Time, Part Time and weekend only
cashiers.
We always try to employ cashiers within a reasonable travelling
distance of home. The work consists of receiving bets from our clients,
paying them out, and operating our EPOS till system. All relevant
training is provided.
The hours worked are about 35 hours for a full time cashier, 15/25
hours per week for a Part Time cashier, and 8/12 hours for a weekend
cashier, although these figures tend to be flexible.
Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank Holidays are routine working days in
this industry. The work is geared to the racing timetable. Sundays
have become working days in the industry, our shops open for night
racing to 10:00 pm all year round.
The work is interesting and would appeal to people who like lively
brisk shop counter type work and who enjoy meeting people. The applicant
may not have much experience of what goes on inside the betting
office, but it could be said that the work resembles a cross between
working in a pub and a retail shop. Teamwork is the key and staff
are expected to cover for each other's absences at short notice.
Managers are often experienced when they apply to us but many of
our existing managers joined us as cashiers and we encourage cashiers
to develop their skills wherever possible.

Students
Students are very welcome members of staff in our business and generally
about a third of our cashiers are students. We find that students
often like to work weekends, and the students availability to work
more than that for us in student vacations is very helpful. See

Employment. Many students stay with us after completion of their
studies.
Managers
We are always on the lookout for new Managers. Sometimes we promote
from inside the company, but we are always happy to speak to experienced
staff who are looking for a change. We try to train our managers
to the highest possible standard, to offer the best level of service.
